Social Impact
The Gulzad Foundation is the charitable heart of the Gulzad family. Established by the Gulzad Group to serve the people of Afghanistan, the Foundation reaches communities across some of the country's poorest and most underserved regions through programmes focused on women's empowerment, youth education, healthcare, and emergency relief.
One hundred per cent of the Foundation's administrative costs are covered by the Gulzad Group, and every division of the business contributes its expertise to the Foundation's work. This is not a side project. It is the expression of a family's belief that business success carries a responsibility to the communities from which it grew.
The Foundation believes that women are the cornerstone of Afghan society, and that by educating and empowering them, we empower entire communities. Our programmes provide women with literacy, numeracy, business skills, and access to mentorship, giving them the tools to achieve economic independence and lead their families with confidence. Through initiatives like the Women's Bazaar, women who once had no safe means of earning a living now run their own businesses, support their families, and inspire others to do the same. The Foundation has also helped close to a thousand women obtain formal identity documents for the first time, validating their place in society and opening doors to rights and services that had previously been out of reach.
The Foundation works to ensure that every child, male and female, has access to a good education. Programmes focus on raising school attendance in the poorest regions, supporting young people in developing their skills and confidence, and providing learning opportunities for older generations who missed out on education due to decades of conflict. Education is the seed from which all other progress grows.
The Foundation supports the construction of healthcare facilities in underserved communities and provides medicine and medical supplies to those in need. When the COVID-19 pandemic reached Afghanistan, the Foundation mobilised rapidly to deliver protective equipment and essential supplies to communities where no other support was available.
When crisis strikes Afghanistan, the Foundation responds with the speed and operational capability of a family that knows the terrain. Relief operations have been mounted in response to earthquakes, floods, and other natural disasters across the country, providing food, shelter, and essential humanitarian support to families in their most vulnerable moments. The Foundation also runs seasonal programmes during Ramadan and Eid al-Adha, distributing food and support to remote communities across Afghanistan.
Afghanistan is a culture-rich, resource-rich, and character-rich land, with people willing and able to make extraordinary contributions if given the opportunity. The Foundation does not search for ready-made solutions. It plants seeds of progression and nurtures them through sustained commitment. One beneficiary inspires another. One community's success becomes the model for the next.
Community development, education, women's empowerment, and innovation are not separate goals. They are interconnected pillars of a single vision: an Afghanistan where every person has the dignity, the skills, and the opportunity to build a life of meaning.
