About Sharam Gulzad
Sharam Gulzad is a businessman, investor, and collector based in Dubai. He serves as Chief Executive Officer, Board Director, and shareholder of Gulzad Group, a multi-generational family enterprise with origins stretching back more than a century, from the ancient trade routes of Central Asia to today's operations across the Gulf, Southeast Asia, Europe, and the Middle East.
In 2022, Gulzad was selected as a World Economic Forum Young Global Leader, joining a global community of exceptional individuals under forty recognised for their leadership, impact, and commitment to shaping a better future. The recognition reflects both his work as a business leader across multiple industries and his sustained commitment to humanitarian impact through partnerships with the United Nations, the World Bank, the World Trade Organization, and through the Gulzad Foundation.
The Gulzad name has navigated political upheaval, shifting borders, and economic cycles for over a hundred years. That continuity is not accidental. It reflects a set of values (patience, discretion, long-term thinking) that Sharam carries into every decision he makes today.
Beyond the family enterprise, Gulzad has built and invested in ventures spanning mining and natural resources, real estate development, investment management, and cross-border trade. His approach is shaped by that long-term orientation: an instinct for opportunities where genuine value can be created through commitment, operational rigour, and deep local knowledge.
His ventures are not concentrated in one industry or one geography. They reflect a deliberate strategy of diversification (across sectors, across jurisdictions, across risk profiles) built on the understanding that permanent value comes from breadth as much as depth.
A significant chapter of Gulzad's career has been devoted to two parallel commitments. The first is partnership with some of the world's most important institutions, including the United Nations World Food Programme, the Food and Agriculture Organization, UNICEF, the World Bank, and the World Trade Organization, on operations that prevent hunger, protect vulnerable populations, and build systems at scale. He has also served in an advisory capacity to government ministries and large-scale national development projects, bringing private-sector insight to public challenges. The second commitment is the Gulzad Foundation, the family's own charitable organisation, which has empowered Afghan women through education and economic independence, supported youth development, built healthcare facilities, and responded to natural disasters with emergency relief.
For Gulzad, this is not philanthropy in the traditional sense. It is the application of business capability to problems that demand the same operational seriousness as any commercial enterprise.
Gulzad's art collection reflects the same instinct that drives his business decisions: an eye for value that others have not yet recognised, and a willingness to commit to things that reveal their significance over time.
The collection spans twentieth-century and contemporary movements, anchored in the Russian avant-garde but reaching across post-war abstraction, contemporary Middle Eastern art, and European modernism. He collects not as decoration, but as a dialogue with ideas about disruption, form, and meaning.
"The best investments, like the best artworks, reveal their value slowly."
